Carboniferous Isopach Map – Autunian shale gas in Pontarlier and Vallorbes permits

A mid estimate for gas currently in place in the Autunian over the 1,250 sq.kms area (the area where the Autunian shale is in the gas window) is 115 tcf, within a range of 27 to 376 tcf and this volume is compared to a computed gas storage capacity based on typical USA range for porosity and gas saturations:

USA experience suggests recovery factors between 25% and 55% are possible for shale gas resulting in a mid estimate of around 12tcf gas recoverable in the Autunian, with upside to 38tcf.

Toarcian Isopach Map – Toarcian shale oil and gas in Pontarlier and Vallorbes permits

The Toarcian has been measured to be between 15 metres and 100 metres thick in the region. However, the richest shales of the Schistes Carton are 10 – 40m thick over the permit areas. Although the mineralogy of the shales is uncertain, existing log data demonstrates that the interval is bound by tight argillaceous limestones to the top and base. A total retained gas volume has been computed covering the S2 sample range measured over a range of shale thickness for the area mapped and a mid estimate of 15 tcf is computed, within a range of 1.2 to 71 tcf . The S2 volume is compared to a computed gas storage capacity based on typical USA range for porosity and gas saturation:
